Focus, hold your breath, it seems as if a simple gasp could bring it all down.

When he was a child Nick Steur balanced rocks on top of each other. At a crucial time in his artistic career, he rediscovered and developed this skill and created a performance with mind-boggling stone sculpturing. No glue, cement or any other trick is involved. it’s all about concentration and "finding the balance between your own force of will, and that of the stone”.
FREEZE was awarded with the Laureate Young Theatre Award at TAZ Festival 2012 and the Scotsman Fringe First Award for outstanding writing 2013.

Nick Steur (Nijmegen, 1982) is a Dutch artist working primarily with unprocessed materials, with stone being his favorite medium. Though many think of him as a visual artist, Steur is keen on the live aspect of performance. Rather than grand gestures or symbolism, his actions appear mainly functional: connecting steel, moving a boulder or catching a drop of water... Since graduating in 2011 from the institute for performative arts in Maastricht, Nick Steur has been invited by numerous museums and international arts festivals and has won several prizes. Currently, he’s supported by SoAP Maastricht, In Situ European Network, Workspace Brussels, C-Takt and the Performing Arts Fund in the Netherlands.
