An exploration of place and landscape through art.

Lugar (Site) represents a scenic interpretation of an extensive exploration of the concept of landscape. The research has been intertwined with individuals from various fields, including animal husbandry, geography, art restoration, climatology, philosophy and cinema. Consequently, the approach to “place” is not merely as a geographical location but as an imaginative space. Landscape, akin to cinema, embodies both significance and signification, acting as both container and content, reality and fiction; it occupies a perpetual in-between. Within this interstice lies the potential, the void of a place devoid of coordinates. As someone recounts the tale of the colour green, the screen fades and the film ceases to unfold before our eyes. This is the cinema of listening, the profound act of listening to a place.

Ariadna Rodriguez and Iñaki Alvarez form the duo known as nyamnyam. Drawing from their diverse backgrounds and experiences across various disciplines, their work is dedicated to fostering the creation, dissemination and exchange of knowledge through interactive strategies in every local and global context they engage with. Situated at the intersection of live arts, visual arts, critical thinking and pedagogy, nyamnyam’s practice oscillates between project development and curation, acting as an interdisciplinary space for connection and disruption. They have honed their skills in a multitude of contexts and geographical settings. Following eight years of activity at their Barcelona-based studio, they inaugurated Espai nyamnyam in Mieres (Girona) in 2020, a platform centred around contemporary artistic expression within the framework of degrowth.
