Care to Carry is a 4-hour experience (split between a workshop, a walk through the city and a group discussion) on the art of carrying a stone on your head.
How can we still feel centred and free, when the world around us is designed to constantly pull our attention?
Care to Carry is a 4-hour-long experience that begins with an indoor workshop. You’ll get acquainted with your personal stone, learn the art of head-carrying, and connect with fellow participants through a mix of mindfulness and playfulness. The experience then moves outdoors, challenging you to find balance and presence in the heart of the city’s chaos. Discover how — with the right mindset and tools — the bombardment of modern urban life can become an opportunity for sensory exploration. Embrace the challenge and let the world open up to you in unexpected ways.
Working primarily with stone, Nick Steur creates installations and performances that are often site-specific and durational in nature. His analogue practices are in high contrast with today’s fast pace. Although Steur often draws inspiration from the visual arts, he finds the live aspect of performance important: “Live rituals allow duration and togetherness, in which we become aware of the present and our own presence in it.” Rather than grand gestures or symbolism, his actions appear mainly functional; moving a boulder or catching a drop of water… However, through skill and intense focus he is able to connect our inner dialogue with the material, physical world again. His holistic approach succeeds in creating subtle changes in time and space, and perhaps in people.
