Una Illa is a performance made in collaboration with artificial intelligences. The stage unfolds in a vast, open space, with a huge screen stretching from floor to ceiling. Amidst a sea of plastic, a performer engages in exercises resembling yoga but with a twist. On the screen, a dialogue with artificial intelligence unfolds, exploring the intricacies of performance creation.
Who are we? What happens when we extend an invitation to artificial intelligences to envision a collective “us”? The conversation morphs into a cacophony, an unsettling, deafening noise. Then, a change occurs.
Established in 2006 by Àlex Serrano, Agrupación Señor Serrano is a theatre company that creates original productions inspired by stories emerging from the contemporary world. Rooted in creative collaborations, Señor Serrano’s works weave together elements of performance, text, video, sound and models, staging narratives that explore diverse facets of today’s human experience. These productions find a global audience as they premiere and tour primarily on the international scene. Agrupación Señor Serrano has earned prestigious awards both nationally and internationally, including accolades such as the Silver Lion at the Venice Biennale, the Ciutat de Barcelona Award and the FAD Sebastià Gasch Award. The company’s work has received acclaim from media outlets such as The New York Times, Folha de Sao Paulo, L’Espresso, Tiempo Argentino and La Vanguardia.
