Likes bases itself on the analysis of two popular YouTube phenomena: cover dance tutorials and videos on different yoga techniques. The piece is a fresh and choreographic take that reflects on the social value of likes and the presence of the body in the digital era. We can see and hear the body on screen, but as David Le Breton said, the sense of touch and smell disappear. Opinions can be expressed through social media; a like can be given to a body, a movement, a shape or a colour. Is that why aesthetics and appearance have become so important in today’s society?

Núria Guiu has worked as a dancer with companies such as Cullberg Ballet, Gisele Vienne, the Carte Blanche Dance Company, the Batsheva Dance Company (Kamuyot), Ingri Fiksdal, Jasmin Vardimon, La Veronal and Kobalt Works. Since 2012, she has pursued an interest in choreography and the relationship between the body and digital culture. Likes was selected by the European platform Aerowaves 2018 and has earned distinctions and prizes at the City of Barcelona Awards 2018, the Critics Awards 2018 and DansaCat Awards 2020. Her latest pieces include Spiritual Boyfriends, which premiered at the Festival Grec 2020 and Futuralgia, a group show commissioned by Unusual Symptoms, a dance company in residence at Theater Bremen. Núria Guiu is currently an artist associated with El Graner, the Centre for the Creation of Dance and Performing Arts.
